The U.S. Mission in Jakarta is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the positions of Librarian and Custodian and The U.S. Consulate in Medan is seeking for Chauffeur with qualification as follow:

Chauffeur

  • Hiring Agency: Consulate Medan

Basic Function of Position

  • The incumbent operates safely and efficiently an unarmored U.S. Government-owned or leased motor vehicle to transport passengers and / or cargo. 
  • Works as messenger as directed. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Chauffeur Responsibilities

  • As one of several motor pool chauffeurs, receives work assignments from the General Service Assistant (C53400) to transport State and / or other Agency personnel or cargo.
  • Operates Consulate Medan vehicles in the transportation of official visitors in support of U.S. Government’s official activities. 
  • Assumes duty driver responsibility on a rotational basis. Incumbent may be required to make trips that require out-of-town stays.
  • Maintains vehicle in a clean and serviceable condition, to include cleaning the interior and exterior of the vehicle. Performs basic vehicle inspection in accordance with established schedules and policies.  
  • Prepares trip reports, vehicle use and fuel logs. Estimates fuel consumption for trips.
  • Safeguards U.S. Government property and uses U.S. Government resources efficiently, including the fuel-efficient operation of vehicles.
  • May drive armored vehicles, as needed.

Messengers Responsibilities

  • To include mail, cargo, documents pickup and delivery, as assigned.

Qualifications and Evaluations

  • Minimum of three (3) years of professional driving experience is required.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of the city and its environs, including driving routes and traffic patterns. Must be familiar with the location of hospitals, police and fire stations within the city and its immediate surroundings.
  • Completion of primary education is required.
  • Limited Knowledge in Speaking / Reading / Writing in English is required. and Good Working Knowledge in Speaking / Reading / Writing in Bahasa Indonesia is required (this may be tested).
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license. Must have the ability to read maps and plan driving routes. Must have good verbal communication skills, and an ability to handle all persons with professionalism and discretion. Must be able to perform basic vehicle inspection and must possess intermediate level automotive maintenance skills. Must have basic computer skills to maintain reports and for communication purposes.
  • Operates level C or D armored vehicle with defensive driving skill (driver’s license type B1 is required).

Librarian (Cataloging)

Duties

As Cataloging Expert

  • Performs independent online original descriptive cataloging in real time for monographs, serials and non-book materials in accordance with international standards, viz., Resource Description Access (RDA which replaced previous standard of AACR2), Library of Congress Policy Statements, and current revisions, and other cataloging manuals. Determines the level of cataloging description and the priority to be assigned to each newly acquired monographic publication. Decides whether the publication needs full level cataloging or minimal level cataloging to provide optimal access for users of the international automated database.
  • Searches titles against several automated bibliographic databases to determine its relationship to other works in the database. Determines and establishes access points to provide optimal access to the work for researchers and other users of the database. Creates bibliographic records in MARC21 and BIBFRAME format (the international format for automated cataloging) which will be automatically uploaded into the Library’s Online Public Access Catalog and the international bibliographic utility, OCLC.
  • Prepares name authorities, or modifies existing authorities as needed, following RDA standards for authorities. Research existing authorities to ensure they meet current, revised standards by searching encyclopedias, searching the internet, using contacts or calling sources.
  • Upgrades bibliographic records to full level by performing independent online original subject cataloging in real time for monographs, serials and non-book materials. Assigns current subject headings and classification numbers. Incumbent is expected to maintain high standards of Library of Congress by achieving a minimum accuracy rate of 85%.
  • Proposes new or amendments to current subject headings and classification numbers to be added to the official Library of Congress Subject Headings and classification schedules. Prepares subject authority records to serve as standards for use by the American libraries and other libraries throughout the world.
  • Prepares indexes and finding aids for ephemeral materials, by applying latest standards in metadata.
  • Using the LC Classification and Shelf-listing Manual, incumbent performs shelf-listing for materials acquired for Library of Congress’s collections (except those for the Law Library of Congress).
  • Ensures cataloging duties are performed at levels of productivity consistent with the incoming workloads. May review work performed by other similarly placed catalogers.
  • Stays updated with and absorbs new or modified cataloging rules, cataloging policy, rule interpretations and other automated searching and cataloging tools.

As Acquisitions and Collections Development Consultant

  • Advises LOC-Jakarta’s Acquisitions Librarians on (a) innovative techniques to be used when searching the Library of Congress official catalog and other international bibliographic databases; (b) changes needed in an existing bibliographic record when the same publication is acquired in another format.
  • Stays abreast of trends in American academic research on Southeast Asia and  collection development needs of the Library of Congress and American universities who participate in LOC-Jakarta’s Cooperative Acquisitions Program for Southeast Asia  (CAPSEA) by maintaining contacts with subject specialists.

Qualifications and Evaluations

  • Minimum four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in library work, one year of which must have been as a descriptive cataloger.
  • Knowledge:
    • Pre-Hire (Operational)
      • Knowledge of international bibliographic databases and how to search them. Thorough knowledge and understanding of descriptive and subject cataloging. In-depth knowledge of publishing, literary, political and social trends in Indonesia.
    • Post-Hire (Organizational)
      • In-depth knowledge of Library of Congress rules governing descriptive and subject cataloging: Resource Description Access, Library of Congress Policy Statements with current revisions, and LC Classification and Shelf-listing Manual. Knowledge of how to catalog the full range of formats, e.g. maps; CD-ROMs; complex, multi-part government documents, conference proceedings, etc.
      • Good knowledge of current Library of Congress acquisitions and collection development policies. Knowledge how to analyze content of a monograph so as to determine level of cataloging needed to provide optimal access for users.
  • Pre-Hire Skills and Abilities:
    • To work with precision and accuracy with careful attention to detail for cataloging various physical formats, utilizing effective work techniques and on own initiative so as to complete tasks in a timely manner. Skills and ability to do bibliographic searching techniques in manual and online databases. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
  • Post-Hire Skills and Abilities:
    • To read and interpret complex cataloging rules and rule interpretations, accurately following oral and written cataloging instructions; adjust workloads as needed to accomplish objectives and meet deadlines; expert bibliographic searching techniques in manual and online databases. Communicate effectively with authors, publishers, dealers, government officials and academicians at all levels of professional life in order to create name authorities. Ability to work with precision and to pay careful attention to detail.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Sarjana Strata-1) in Library Science, Information Studies, Communications or Humanities.
  • Good working Knowledge of English is required - This may be tested.
  • Fluency in Bahasa Indonesia is required.
  • Limited Knowledge in at least one regional language - This may be tested.

Custodian (Janitor)

Duties

  • This standard job description is for a Custodian position who is responsible for performing a wide range of cleaning duties at Mission office facilities as well as other U.S. Government (USG) owned and leased properties as directed. The incumbent is under the direct supervision of the Janitor / Custodian Supervisor.                                 

Qualifications and Evaluations

  • Minimum of six months of custodial or housekeeping experience is required.
  • Must have adequate knowledge of cleaning and the use of housekeeping materials. Knowledge of current developments concerning new cleaning agents, techniques, and equipment. Must be aware of safety requirements of cleaning related chemicals and identify and report unsafe practices. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety rules and regulations, including safe handling of standard cleaning chemicals. Must understand and know how to use safety equipment such as a fire extinguisher
  • Mandatory: Completion of Primary School
  • Rudimentary in English (reading and speaking) and Limited knowledge in Bahasa Indonesia (reading / writing and speaking). This may be tested.
