The Ministry of Defense, hereinafter referred to as Kemhan, is an implementing element of the government led by the Minister of Defense, hereinafter referred to as Menhan, who is positioned under and responsible to the President.
The Ministry of Defense has the task of organizing defense affairs in government to assist the President in organizing the government of the country.
In carrying out the tasks as referred to, the Ministry of Defense carries out the following functions:
- Formulation, determination, and implementation of policies in the field of defense strategy, defense planning, defense potential, and defense strength;

- Management of state property / assets that are the responsibility of the Ministry of Defense;
- Supervision of the implementation of tasks within the Ministry of Defense;

- Implementation of education and training in the field of defense;
- Implementation of management of strategic defense installations;
- Implementation of technical activities from the center to the regions; and
- Implementation of substantive support to all elements of the organization within the Ministry of Defense.
The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia, abbreviated as Kemhan RI, (formerly the Department of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia, abbreviated as Dephan RI, and before that the Department of Defense and Security of the Republic of Indonesia, abbreviated as Dephankam RI) is a ministry within the Government of Indonesia that handles defense affairs. The Ministry of Defense is led by a Minister of Defense (Menhan) who since October 23, 2019 has been held by Prabowo Subianto. The Ministry of Defense is one of three ministries (along with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs) explicitly mentioned in the 1945 Constitution. This ministry cannot be changed or dissolved by the president, because the Minister of Defense together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Home Affairs act as acting presidential officials if the President and Vice President die, resign, are dismissed, or are unable to carry out their duties during their term of office simultaneously.
Based on the Minister State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform Decree Number 293 of 2024 concerning Determination Covil Servant Needs within the Government Institutions for Fiscal Year 2024, the Ministry of Defense opens the opportunity for Indonesian citizen to participate in the selection of Civil Servant Candidate (CPNS) for Health Officer and Technical Officer in 2024 who will be assigned to work units within the Ministry of Defense throughout Indonesia.
The allocation of Health Officer positions need within the Ministry of Defense is 2,834 (Two thousand eight hundred and thirty-four) positions and Technical Officer positions allocation is 3,732 (Three thousand seven hundred and thirty-two) with educational qualifications as follow.
